Is This Heaven? No, it's Iowa.

It may not be your idea of heaven, but right now life is about as good as it gets for me. 750 hours of the Iowa Caucus on at least 5 stations. I'm flipping between C-Span 1 and 2, CNN, Fox, MSNBC, local outlets, the internet, and enjoying every single boring exciting goofy important second of it. I have my knitting on the end table. My laptop on my knees. My book in progress. A hot cup of tea. A parrot on my shoulder. A husband playing Scrabble and only grumbling a little.

What can I say? I love the process. I wouldn't give you ten cents for any politician on the planet but there are few things I love more than watching the game play out. When I was six years old I sat up with my parents and watched the Democratic and Republican conventions on television and that experience hooked me forever. I devoured Nancy Drew and The Making of the President 1960 and loved both with equal fervor.

I love the backbiting, the idealism, the upsets, the landslides, that moment every ten years or so when a candidate transcends the crap and actually touches something inside this jaded soul.

Next stop New Hampshire!

How do you play Scrabble by yourself? Oh, wait, there are two parrots unaccounted for. Never mind.
